The rapists interviewed say they will not pick on women who have umbrellas or other similar objects in their hands that can be used from a distance. Keys are not necessarily a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon, but they may be better than nothing. I personally, have heard the same thing: people attacked in the early morning hours, put up a fight,(I say, even if they DO have a weapon, do not allow anyone into your car, would rather risk being shot in a parking lot than a deserted destination), robbed at ATM’s early am; walk like you are purposeful, going somewhere, briskly; body language means a lot.

YES, put up a fight as mentioned because it may be your only way out? Back in 1980 I was almost abducted by three men in white van following me walking to school at..7:00 am? I was on 14 years of age and 95 pounds and I vividly recall fighting with the two that wanted to put me in the van. I know once they had me in the van,, it would be all over for me. They gave up and took off as cars starting driving by.
