As all but two of his victims were African American, with the killer being described as a white male, it is logical to assume the motive for these assaults and murders may be race related hate crimes. All of the victims in Michigan were attacked between 11 PM at night and 6 AM, all were alone, and most if not all were physically small of frame, to include two handicapped individuals. The offender is believed to drive up to a potential victim and, pretending to have car problems or asking for directions, viciously attacks his victims, leaving them laying alone the dark roadside as he drives away.

In Michigan the killer was described as a 6′, 200 pound muscular white male in his late 20′s or early 30′s with light colored hair, worn with a mustache and goatee. He wore a distinctive bar through the top of his left ear as a piercing. His vehicle was described as a late model Chevy Blazer, four-door, green with cream trim. Many law enforcement agencies combined forces to investigate this serial killer, and most believed if he continued to attack in that area he would soon be caught. That’s what serial killers usually do – they ultimately either get caught, or go to jail for an unrelated crime, or die, or in remote cases, simply fade away.

It appears the Flint serial killer did something else, he moved his stalking area, this by apparently driving 550 miles to Virginia. Since last Thursday three dark skinned males (two African Americans and a Latino), were attacked in and around Leesburg, Virginia. The assailant in all three cases was described as a white male who otherwise met the physical description of the Flint killer. While none of his virginia victims have died (ages 15-67), he attacked two of them with an edged weapon, a third with a hammer, and made his escape in a 1995-2006 Chevy Blazer (or GMC Jimmy), green in color, with two grapefruit sized dents in the hood. No license plate was attached to the front of the vehicle and no state inspection sticker, as required in Virginia, was visible in the vehicle’s front windshield. The task force working the Flint murders has exchanged information with authorities in Leesburg and both groups now believe they are seeking the same man, one who has moved his area of attack to the East Coast. These same investigators reviewed a similar assault that took place last Saturday night in Toledo, Ohio. In that case, though, the victim described his assailant as a 5’8″, 160 pound man who appeared to be from the Middle East, possibly eliminating this attacker as the believed serial killer.

So we have a description of the killer and his vehicle, we know his MO, his new stalking grounds, his choice of victims and that he now strikes between the hours of 9:45 PM and 6 AM. Robbery hass evidently not been a motive for these crimes. While we don’t know why he’s doing this, we can suggest that he is likely to be someone with an outstanding criminal history who has targeted his victims for personal reasons known only to him, perhaps because of their vulnerability, or they may represent something he wants to wipe out, or, perhaps, he just likes to kill and his victims, traveling alone, at dark, and in an urban area are just easy targets. No matter his other reasons, there must also be a racial component to his madness. And while a firearm would allow him to stand off from his victims, this man’s use of an edged weapon is a very up close and personal method of assault and murder. He can look into his victim’s eyes to see the fear and pain that he inflicts, with the victim’s blood covering his own clothes and shoes. These are terribly brutal crimes, ones that suggest the killer likely enjoys his own handiwork and will not stop until apprehended.

This killer has made a choice to move his stalking ground as he attempts to avoid identification and apprehension. If he moved his place of attack to Virginia, he could just as easily move again. It is his vehicle, and his distinctive appearance that will help the public help the police find this killer, hopefully before he strikes again.
