- Never Park in Dark Areas
When parking in dark areas you are walking into unknown territory. A stranger could be waiting to strike. Always park your vehicle in well-lit areas.
- Always Be Aware of Your Surroundings in Malls and Parking Lots
Someone is always watching you and your things. Always carry minimal cash and valuables with you and if possible don’t wear a lot of jewelry. Never leave your things unattended. Always keep your purse or wallet nearby and closed. When walking in the parking lot, pay attention to things that seem strange. Never let your guard down. Keep keys in hand incase someone approaches you trying to cause harm.
- Check the Vehicle Before Getting In
Look through the back and front windows, check underneath and look for any force entry marks on the vehicle. Always lock the doors once you’re in.
- Carry a Cell Phone for Emergencies
- Take a Small Purse or Pocket Book
Perpetrators are always searching for women with large handbags. When shopping try to carry a small purse or pocket book close to your body for security purposes.
- Never Open Wallet or Purse in Parking Lot
- Shop in Groups
Travel with a buddy or several friends when you go shopping. Avoid going alone.
- Storage Safety
People who carry lots of packages through out the mall become targets for robbery. From time to time store packages in the trunk of your vehicle for safe-keeping. If you don’t have a trunk, store them underneath a blanket or some clothing on the floor.
- Inform Someone of Your Whereabouts
This way, if needed, the police can fill in missing blanks in an investigation, when searching for missing persons.
