When things are really bad, no one helps you, at least not in Mississippi. I went to the police, and justice court with my son, several times, to get a protective order against my husband, but they said I had to have absolute proof. I had recordings, photos and more, but when I went to work he would go through everything until he found something, then destroy any evidence I had. When I went to sleep at night, he would go through the cars to see if I was hiding something. My son and I were hit, yelled at, threatened and accused of everything unitil we finally packed up and drove 1,000 miles away, to Michigan to get away from him. We lost everything except our safety, through the divorce he filed for, on fabricated evidence. My son and I live together, I don't date and neither does he, even though he is 17 now. My son is doing better, but it changed everything about our lives. My ex got everything in the divorce, because "he is such a sweet older man", including a house and 79 akers of land that had been in my family for about 75 years. A man can have a history of domestic violence or violence against another and not have a record. Fact most women do not convict crimes against them. So, in turn the police will have no convicted background on any said individual with only a "history" of domestic violence.
